Yellowstone Getaway lies deep within the heart of the Rocky Mountains of Montana. The grandeur of the area is a compliment to the cozy warmth of Yellowstone Getaway. It s close proximity to Yellowstone National Park and the many activities in the area give Yellowstone Getaway diversity and nearly endless possibilities while enjoying the benefits of rural Montana.
A day trip into the Park is easy to do. A guided, group day tour can be arranged in advance. A Park pass for a week at the rate of $20 per automobile can be purchased at the entrance if going it on your own. There are plenty of self-guided tour maps to let you know where things can be found.
Yellowstone Getaway is located just across the road from the beautiful Yellowstone River. Fishing in the area is some of the best in the West. The Yellowstone River being the most popular along with numerous other rivers, lakes and streams. There are several guide services available if youre a serious angler. A full or half-day trip can be planned in advance. The views from the river are unbeatable.
Rafting down the Yellowstone River is an exciting way to see the sights. There are several companies within minutes of the house that give guided raft trips of varying length and adventure. Its an adventure worth taking.
Horseback riding is also nearby. Taking off for a ride in the backcountry of Montana is quite an experience. There are guided horseback outfits near the house or within a short distance. Half or whole-day trips can be arranged in advance.
The first dude ranch in Montana, The OTO Ranch, is also just a short drive and modest walk away. Here you can see a slice of Montana history as the original ranch buildings are nearly totally restored. This was a very popular tourist destination at the turn of the 20th century.
There are several choices of restaurants on the way to or in Gardiner, Montana, which is right at the Parks north entrance. Enjoy an authentic Buffalo Burger from Helens Drive-In or at least 3 restaurants with dining rooms along with a pizza parlor, Chinese take out and an informal soda fountain. Gardiner is a wonderful place to find unique gifts. It also has a post office and drug store.
Going north to Emigrant--about 10 miles from the house into Paradise Valley, are a few more informal dining spots. Youll see a lot of local Montanans in these places-just plain, friendly folks.
Across the river from Emigrant is famous Chico Hot Springs, with fine dining and its own large, outdoor mineral springs pool. Right outside of Chico stands 10,000 ft Emigrant Peak with a trail all the way to the top. Chico also has horseback riding available.
There are seemingly endless hiking trails inside and outside of Yellowstone Park. In the Park, you can walk to see thermal hot spots, spouting geysers, or peer down into the gorge of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. Take a trek to beautiful Lamar Valley where the deer and the antelope really do play. And just behind Yellowstone Getaway is trailhead into the vast Absoroka-Beartooth Wilderness.You might even find a sparkly gem or two. Montana has deposits of gold, copper, sapphire, amethyst and lots and lots of colorful quartz.
Driving north up highway 89, and starting at a trailhead just outside a campground, you will be amazed to find a large forest of petrified wood. You are even allowed to take a sample home with you. This area is truly back-woods country.
